Reels To Reel Your Customer In

Instagram Reels is the new and shiny feature that Instagram released last year. The feature is said to be Instagram’s way to clap back against the popularity of TikTok and a way to create similar content within the Instagram platform. Since Instagram aims to be a one-stop platform, this move makes so much sense.

But what is the best way to use this feature for your brand or business?

Not all reels (or TikTok videos, really) are just dancing or music. Especially because business accounts don’t have the music option yet, you’re most likely to find other ways to use these videos.

Here are some ideas on what content to make on Instagram reels:

Behind The Scenes

Share what is happening behind the scenes! This will give you so much benefit. For example, your brand may be seen as trustworthy as your audience can see the whole process before the final product.

User-Generated Content

You can start by partnering with some influencers to create mini videos of them using your products or services. Another idea is to have your audience submit their videos through an engaging online contest.

How To’s

Teach people how to use your product or become more efficient and/or effective when using it. For example, if you have a clothing line, get one of your products and teach people how to style it for multiple occasions.

Product Placement

Show a video of your product or service in action. For example, if you are selling bagels, have reels of people deliciously eating your bagels. Or, if you sell hats, showcase them through a video. This will give more confidence as many people are scared of buying things online only to receive an item that looks like what they purchased.

In addition, it’s worth noting that most people watching reels will not read your caption. So, keep it short, and if you have a call to action (CTA) or key point to stress in your post, it is better to have them in your video as a text/subtitle or in the form of voice over.

But why is it essential to use reels as one of your content marketing strategies? Adam Mosseri, head of Instagram, stated that he wants to go big on the video to compete directly with TikTok. He also went ahead to say that Instagram is now focusing on videos

With that in mind, how do we trick the algorithm, so it works to our benefit? The key is to be engaging. Our reels have to make people watch until the end, like it, comment, and go to the audio page to make their own reel. Start by doing some a/b testing to see what engages your audience the most and also spend time looking at your competitors to see what works for them. This way, you’ll be able to form a strategy based on data on what will work for you. Keep in mind that your audience is unique to you, so you cannot copy and paste what others are doing.

Since the festive season is coming, let’s look at a case study from TJ Maxx. In 2020, TJX companies intended to end the year on a high note by partnering with celebrities in communities and spread holiday cheer.

The home-fashion retailer is one of the leading companies to leverage Instagram’s Reels format for an influencer campaign. The company launched the #CarolForACause campaign intending to increase awareness, positive brand sentiment and engagement. This was done by spreading joyous messaging and holiday cheer through the combined reach of their chosen influencers and raising funding through audience participation. The influencer they chose has an individual reach above 400,000 followers, including Meghan Trainor, Pentatonix, and Sofia Reyes. When you open the caption, each influencer includes a call-to-action (CTA) with subtle modifications. For example, asking the audience to record their own carol on their Instagram Reels with the #CarolForACause tag. The result? This campaign had a 10.10% engagement rate with 1,908 hashtag use and 1,208,886 views.
