Key Insights

  • AI Max can broaden Search reach, but a B2B campaign needs qualified-conversion signals and controlled landing pages before the experiment starts.
  • Google announced new reporting for the search term, creative and destination journey in September 2026; the feature's availability should be checked in the account.
  • Compare sales-accepted opportunities and cost per qualified opportunity, not only platform leads or click volume.

The promise of broader Search reach is attractive when a Singapore B2B account has exhausted its obvious keywords. It also creates a familiar problem: an automated system may find enquiries that look inexpensive in Google Ads but never survive a sales conversation. A Google Ads agency should be able to show how it'll distinguish that expansion from real pipeline growth before asking for more budget.

AI Max brings search term matching, text customisation and final URL expansion into Search campaigns. Google has also announced new ways to steer creative and inspect the journey from query to ad asset to landing page. Its September 2026 update says the unified reporting feature is being introduced, with more details and availability to follow. A testing plan should therefore use the controls already present in the account, then incorporate new reporting when it appears. No one should promise a feature is live for your account without checking it.

Define the conversion before expanding reach

For B2B, a submitted form is often the start of qualification. It may come from a student, an unsuitable market, an existing customer or a prospect whose budget is years away. If all four receive the same conversion value, automation has little reason to favour the buyer your sales team can serve.

Set out the stages the business already recognises: enquiry, accepted lead, qualified opportunity and closed revenue. Decide which stages can be returned to the ad platform, how long qualification usually takes and how the CRM will handle duplicates. Google's GA4 lead-generation events include generate_lead and qualify_lead; they illustrate the difference between an enquiry and a qualified prospect. The exact measurement setup will depend on your consent, CRM and Google Ads configuration.

A Singapore software firm selling to regional enterprises may receive a high volume of small-company enquiries. If the sales team only works with organisations above a certain size, that fit criterion belongs in the measurement design. An agency that reports only cost per form fill will miss the distinction. Ask for a baseline of accepted opportunities and their source campaigns before the experiment begins.

Decide which pages automation may choose

Final URL expansion can send a user to a page Google judges relevant. For a B2B site, relevance needs a commercial check. A technical explainer may attract an early researcher, while an implementation page may fit a buyer comparing providers. Neither should be treated as interchangeable with a careers page, an old campaign page or a market page with the wrong offer.

Review the candidate destinations with sales and product owners. Each should state its audience, offer, proof and next step clearly. Check mobile loading, forms, consent notices and CRM routing. If a page creates ambiguity about market coverage or delivery scope, fix it before AI Max sends more traffic there. Exclusions and URL controls should reflect the actual inventory, not an assumed site map.

That page review often leads to conversion rate optimisation work. A clearer enquiry form or a better explanation of implementation can improve the quality of every channel, including the existing Search campaign. It can also make the AI Max test more interpretable because the landing experience won't change unexpectedly halfway through.

Protect the message buyers see

Text customisation can create assets from landing-page content. A B2B advertiser still owns the claim. Review the source pages for outdated pricing, unsupported superlatives and promises that depend on a sales qualification. Set brand and location controls where available, and inspect generated assets against the legal and commercial limits of the offer.

The review should be specific. A claim about “instant integration” may be accurate for one product but wrong for an enterprise deployment with security review. “Serving APAC” can imply delivery in markets the sales team isn't prepared to support. A high click-through rate won't repair an inaccurate promise. Document the approved language and the person who can approve a change.

Google's AI Max guidance describes more controls for advertiser input and messaging. The existence of a control doesn't replace a content audit. It gives the team a way to state its boundaries to the system.

Run an experiment that can answer a business question

Decide what would make expansion worth keeping. An incremental increase in qualified opportunities at an acceptable cost is a stronger criterion than more impressions. Set a comparison period long enough to include your normal sales-acceptance delay, and document any major changes to budgets, offer, audience or landing pages. If several of those change at once, the test will be hard to interpret.

Google describes one-click experiments for testing AI Max. Use the account's available experiment tools where appropriate, but plan the analysis before launch. Segment by campaign, market, search theme and landing page. Read search terms and creative combinations when reporting permits. Compare downstream CRM outcomes against the pre-test baseline, and inspect the rejected leads to understand why a seemingly successful segment failed.

There's also a timing question. Google's Dynamic Search Ads transition notice was updated to extend the DSA sunset and automatic upgrade to February 2027, while some other legacy settings begin upgrading in September 2026. An agency should check which features are actually affected in your account. A vague “everything changes this month” warning is a poor basis for campaign decisions.

Give sales a role in the weekly review

Search teams can see the query and ad. Sales can tell whether the prospect had a credible project, authority and urgency. Bring those observations together each week. If an AI Max segment drives accepted opportunities but weak close rates, inspect the offer and expectations set on the page. If it drives many rejected enquiries, inspect search terms and landing-page paths before raising bids or budgets.

The marketing analytics behind the test should connect campaign responses to CRM stages without pretending the platform's conversion column is revenue. Sales and marketing need enough detail to stop, narrow or scale a segment with a stated reason.

What a Google Ads Agency Should Deliver from the AI Max Test

Ask for a written test design with conversion definitions, approved destinations, message controls, an experiment window and a decision threshold. At the end, the agency should show which extra searches reached the right buyer, which pages helped them move forward and what happened after the form was submitted.
