Key Insights
- Job applications in a sales form can reveal ambiguity in the offer, audience or destination.
- Ask for purchase context before treating seniority, employment status or email type as evidence of sales intent.
- Assess changes against accepted sales conversations and preserve a clear route for genuine recruitment enquiries.
Your Indonesian sales team opens another batch of LinkedIn enquiries. Several contacts have sent CVs or asked about vacancies. The campaign was intended to sell a business service, yet the report counts every submission as a lead. Sales wants tighter targeting, while marketing points to a falling cost per lead.
Before excluding large parts of the audience, find out what people thought they were responding to. A genuine professional can be searching for work and researching a supplier at the same time. Their profile alone won't establish why they submitted your form.
The immediate task is to identify where the sales invitation became a recruitment invitation. Then change the parts of the journey that produced that misunderstanding and measure the commercial result.
Read the responses before changing the audience
Take a recent sample large enough to include the main creatives and destinations. Separate explicit job enquiries from supplier requests, unclear responses and people sales couldn't reach. Keep the original wording so the review doesn't depend entirely on a salesperson's shorthand.
A person who writes “I'd like to apply” has expressed recruitment intent. A junior employee asking about an implementation may be conducting legitimate research for a manager. A personal email address might deserve clarification, but it doesn't prove either case.
Record the campaign, creative and form associated with each response. If job applications cluster around one ad, the message deserves attention. If they appear across every route, inspect the wider proposition, audience settings and company context.
Ask sales to use a consistent rejection reason. “Poor lead” hides distinctions between a job application, an unsuitable company and a buyer outside the service scope. Those differences determine which campaign change is worth testing.
Make the service invitation unmistakable
Read the ad without the assumptions your team brings to it. Phrases such as “build your future”, “join our growth journey” or “work with leading brands” can resemble recruitment messages when the commercial offer is missing. Images of enthusiastic staff can reinforce that interpretation.
Name the service and who purchases it. A logistics provider seeking distribution contracts should describe the operational need, service coverage and next sales step. Someone considering a vacancy should be able to recognise that the invitation concerns their employer's purchasing requirement.
Review Bahasa Indonesia wording with someone who understands both the service and local usage. Literal translation may preserve a phrase's words while changing the action readers infer. Ask reviewers what they expect after clicking, before showing them the intended answer.
Check the surrounding company presence. An employer campaign and a sales campaign can coexist, but their destinations and calls to action should make their purposes clear. A recruitment-heavy company feed doesn't mean sales advertising must stop; it means the commercial ad needs enough context to stand on its own.
Make the form ask about the request
LinkedIn's Lead Gen Forms documentation explains that forms can prefill profile information and support custom questions. Prefilled contact details make responding easier, but they don't establish a buying need.
Use a question that changes what sales does next. Depending on the offer, that might ask which company needs the service, what problem the team is evaluating or whether the request concerns a purchase. Avoid questions that simply ask respondents to repeat their job title.
Keep the qualification proportionate to the action. A technical download shouldn't require the same detail as a proposal request. If your objective is a sales conversation, a short question about the intended project can establish context without demanding a complete procurement brief.
State what happens after submission. A consultation request should say that the service team will contact the person about the stated business requirement. Use a confirmation message that continues that expectation and gives the buyer a relevant next step.
Where recruitment confusion persists, make a separate careers route visible on your own destination. Help the person reach the appropriate team instead of sending their CV through a sales workflow. Confirm the route exists and has an owner before directing people there.
Inspect the targeting mode you actually launched
LinkedIn's targeting guidance distinguishes building your own audience from Auto-Targeting and describes the controls available for each. Review the active setup in the account, including any automatic targeting choices, before assuming an old audience checklist still applies.
Compare the intended companies and roles with the people responding. If the offer requires a particular operating environment, company criteria may contribute more than another seniority restriction. A senior title doesn't turn a job application into a buying signal.
Avoid blanket exclusion of younger or junior professionals as a shortcut. Depending on the purchase, they may gather requirements, evaluate specifications or introduce vendors to a manager. Excluding them could reduce inappropriate responses while also removing people who contribute to genuine opportunities.
Account selection also needs discipline. Connecting Indonesian LinkedIn campaigns with named buying roles helps define whose participation matters. Use that account context to evaluate exclusions, then check the audience estimate and delivery after the change.
Targeting can reduce the chance of irrelevant exposure. It can't guarantee that every person who sees an ad is currently buying, so the message and form still need to establish the purpose of the response.
Give recruitment enquiries a separate operational path
Agree what sales should do when a jobseeker enters the form. A clear response can explain that the form concerns a commercial service and direct the person to the verified careers channel. Avoid adding them to a sales nurture sequence merely because they submitted contact details.
Check the automation triggered by the form. If every submission creates an opportunity, the CRM will overstate demand. Keep the original enquiry and its classification while creating a sales opportunity only when the agreed qualification conditions are met.
Preserve privacy and access controls around CVs or personal documents received in error. Ask the responsible owner to define retention and handling; don't spread attachments across campaign reports to demonstrate the quality problem. Aggregated categories and a small authorised review are enough for most campaign decisions.
Train the people applying labels. Otherwise a genuine buyer who mentions hiring or team expansion may be classified as a jobseeker even when the company is evaluating your service. The reason for the enquiry should determine the route.
Make LinkedIn Ads in Indonesia Produce Clearer Sales Requests
Test the most likely source of confusion first. For example, retain the audience while clarifying the offer and adding one purchase-context question. Keep enough campaign information to compare the resulting enquiries with the earlier group after sales has reviewed them.
Judge the change by accepted sales conversations, their cost and the workload needed to identify them. A lower submission rate can be acceptable if more responses concern purchases your team can progress. Watch for a loss of relevant buying roles before tightening further.
If job applications are obscuring your campaign's commercial result, ask Digital Squad to review the ad-to-sales enquiry path for your Indonesian LinkedIn programme. Bring the creative, form and anonymised rejection categories so the review can identify the misunderstanding that needs to change.
